           10 UNCOMMONLY USED FILIPINO WORDS,                      ALONG WITH THEIR DEFINITIONS AND                                      EXAMPLE SENTENCE


 Let's take a step back and appreciate the beauty of     our own language, learning and sharing the Filipino     words that have been forgotten or overlooked, and 
 in doing so, preserve our cultural heritage for future                                      generations.



 
🌺 Alimpuyok: (Smell of burning rice)
      Definition: the scent produced when rice is                  slightly burnt.
      Example: "Naamoy ko ang alimpuyok mula sa              kusina." (I smelled the scent of burning rice from        the kitchen.)



🌺 Balintataw: (A Fleeting Glimpse) 
      Definition: a brief or momentary sight or view.              Example: "Nakita ko ang balintataw ng kanyang          pagkatao." (I caught a fleeting glimpse of his              personality.)


🌺 Bulalakaw: (Shooting Star/Meteor) 
      Definition: a celestial body that streaks across            the  sky. 
      Example: "May bulalakaw na dumaan sa langit            kagabi." (A shooting star passed through the sky        last night.)

🌺 Dupil: (Amulet) 
      Meaning: an ornament or small piece of jewelry          thought to give protection against evil, danger, or        disease.
      Example: "Sinuot niya ang dupil upang                          protektahan siya." (He wore the amulet to protect        him.)

🌺 Salabat: (Ginger)
      Definition: Tea made from ginger, often served            as a remedy for coughs and colds
      Example: "Uminom ka ng salabat para gumaling          ang iyong ubo." (Drink some ginger tea to recover        from your cough.)


🌺 Hatinig: (Telephone)
      Definition: a device used to communicate with            someone over a distance. 
      Example: "Gumamit ako ng hatinig upang                    tawagan ang aking ina sa ibang bansa." (I used            the telephone to call my mother abroad.)

🌺 Paraluman: (Compass)
      Definition: A device for determining directions by        means of a magnetic needle or group of needles        turning freely on a pivot and pointing to the                  magnetic north.
      Example: Hindi alam ng mga turista kung                      saan ang tamang daan kaya kinailangan nila                ng paraluman upang hindi na maligaw.


🌺 Kansunsilyo: (Boxer shorts) 
      Definition: loose-fitting underpants worn by men.        Example: "Bumili ako ng bagong kansunsilyo." (I          bought new boxer shorts.)


🌺 Pang-ulong hatinig: (Earphones) 
      Definition: a pair of headphones. 
      Example: "Gumamit ka ng pang-ulong hatinig              para marinig mong mabuti." (Use earphones so          you can hear well.)

🌺 Pantablay: (Charger)
      Definition: A device for charging storage batteries
      Example: Paubos na ang laman ng baterya ng              aking cellphone, kailangan ko na ang aking                  pantablay.
